Romantic places in London? Let us ask the professionals.
If you were looking for somewhere romantic - a place to stroll for an hour or so hand in hand with your lover, from whom would you seek advice?
At a conference hosted by Transport for London, at which some 300 professionals from the worlds of walking and cycling took part, Rethinking Cities sought out some romantic recommendations.
By far the most popular suggestion was to take a stroll at sunset across the Jubilee walk ways on either side of Hungerford Bridge, that carries the railway from Charing Cross to Waterloo. There were some who recommended the downstream side, with views of Somerset House on the north bank of the Thames, and of the Royal National Theatre and points east towards the Tate Modern and Tower Bridge. Others opted for the upstream walkway, with the views of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to the north, and the Eye to the south.
What was intriguing was how few romantic places were suggested in the boroughs from which the professionals lived or work - only two recommendations were suggested: Broadway Market in Hackney and Brockwell Park in Lambeth - surely there must be plenty of romantic places in each of London's boroughs?
